We live in a very stressful world. Every day, most of us have to get up, get dressed, go to work and serve there for at least eight hours. Even those people who spend most of their days at home use up every ounce of their energy doing chores such as washing the dishes, preparing food, cleaning the house, and taking care of the children.
It’s just exhausting. We adults have a lot on our plates, and it’s too much for us to handle sometimes. And that is why it is important for us to have rest days. We must keep in mind that we are not robots; we are not machines. Heck, even machines need batteries and fuel to keep going.
We humans need to recharge – and it’s not enough that you sleep a couple of hours at night.
Sure, your body may get all the rest it needs to function properly for another eight or so hours, but what about your mental health? What about your spiritual self? Sleep as often as you can, but also make sure that you spend some of your waking hours on things that you enjoy. Life is meant to be lived. All work and no play will make you a dull person – so what can you do to make sure that doesn’t happen? That is what we’re going to discuss in this article today. We must reclaim the so-called “me time” in order to restore balance to your stressful days.
For those of you who don’t know, this is actually a self-explanatory term. “Me time” refers to the time you spend on yourself in order to keep your mental health in check. This is the time you allot on keeping yourself happy and motivated. There are two ways to do this, and it really depends on how busy your schedule is. If you are fully-booked and overloaded with work, you must take advantage of your rest days. Make full use of it, but don’t spend the whole day sleeping. You will find yourself feeling depressed and unfulfilled if you sleep the day away.
Get enough rest, and then do something else that is of your interest. If you are not as busy and you have a few hours to spare every day, make sure that you allot some of that extra time to keeping up with your hobbies and interest. This is how you take back your “me” time. Here are a few general suggestions on how you can do just that.
Listen to Music
Music is a very personal experience that can help you soothe your mind. Everybody has a different taste in music, and only you could determine what kind of songs will help you relax. You can listen to your favorite pop idols, or go the indie route. Some people like to go hardcore with their musical choices, listening to rock, and metal in order to relax themselves and free their inner rock star.
Music also has that nostalgic quality that helps people relive great memories, or even make peace with the not-so-great moments of their lives. This kind of inner harmony will allow you to make better decisions in the workplace scenario.
Take a Long Walk
This doubles as exercise, so if you are planning to lose weight, you can always turn to this recreational activity. Taking a long walk can help your brain loosen up and eliminate your anxieties. It keeps you focused on the road, the streets, and the sights that go along with it.
You can even visit your friends just to catch up. What really matters is that you find an activity that you can truly enjoy.
Try Out Adult Coloring Books
This is a very enduring trend that seems to have a real, long-term effect on those who have tried it. It involves filling out intricate, pre-drawn designs using crayons, colored pens, or pencils. It’s just like your old childhood hobby, except this is much more complicated.
It is relaxing; it takes your mind off of all your problems, and makes you focus on coloring the images. It requires just a dash of creativity, and it’s a hassle-free hobby that you will surely appreciate. There’s no harm in trying. If you want an activity you can enjoy all by yourself, this is the right way to go.
